Dave Einfeldt

about Me

Patent Attorney currently working in the University setting while maintaining his own private practice, having worked in private practice since 2012, with 1 year prior experience as a patent examiner.

David has represented numerous clients having inventions ranging in scope from various consumer products, to medical devices including: artificial intelligent platforms, recurrent deep learning systems and frameworks, epinephrine autoinjectors, CPAP devices, transdermal drug delivery, endoscopic surgical tools; to defense contract work including: aiming assist systems, bomb diffusing robots, as well as various optical systems including: LED laser technology, solar energy collection, and 3-D display systems.  This representation has included hundreds of initial patent application filings, prosecution, appeals, as well as numerous patentability opinions, clearance searches, and freedom-to-operate opinions along the way.

As an examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, David examined patent applications relating to heat transfer which ranged from computer heat sink technology to natural gas extraction and purification, to cryogenic cooling and liquid helium as used in superconductive cooling systems.

David is also a natural teacher, which skills he utilizes as often as possible.  David has taught numerous guest lectures, sat on various IP conference panels, and has even taught a semester as an adjunct professor teaching a course entitled “Intellectual Property in the New Technological Age”.

I have had the heart of an engineer since a young age.  My curiosity regarding how things work was apparent from an extremely young age.  As a child, I could often be found under the car “helping” my dad change the oil rather than entertaining myself with common childhood toys in the house or in the yard.  By the age of 7 my curiosity had grown enough that my parents bought me the book “The Way Things Work” in order to hopefully stem some of my curiosity, and to help me be better about putting the appliances I was always dismantling back together.

As I aged, my dad helped me focus my attention on my bicycle helping me repair it myself, and eventually I became an extremely proficient bicycle mechanic.

Later, this desire drove me to the field of mechanical engineering and while pursuing this education I actually worked at a professional bike shop to pay for a portion of my way through my mechanical engineering studies.

This passion for discovery drove me to pursue a legal career in patent law where I constantly get opportunities to meet with inventors, play with prototypes, and learn and describe to others how new things work.

I am a  hands-on type of attorney who can relate to inventors., I would rather spend my evening watching DIY tutorials and learning how to do things myself than watch TV, and when the need arises pay a repair man. I do almost all of my own car work, from oil changes to transmission replacements.  I am now teaching my own daughter and two sons how to maintain our vehicles and their own bicycles.

The ultimate goal is to provide a valuable service.  Great inventions can come from anyone and from anywhere, I have connections with various service providers and legal clinics which can provide grants or services at little to no cost, and in some instances and situations I can also provide the services myself at a greatly reduced rate.  Please ask and we can discuss these various options.
